The truth is, most of us have more "stuff" in our homes than we need or have room to store. The other truth is, there's a lot of wasted space that could easily be used for extra storage. Kitchens

Most kitchens are already designed to store items like pots, pans, and dishes, but if you have a small kitchen with limited space, consider adding roll-out shelves. A roll-out shelf system lets you use the full width of the cabinet without having to bend down to reach the back of the cabinet. A roll-out system can also be useful in a pantry.

Kitchen islands are great for extra storage. If you don’t have room for a built-in, consider one with wheels that you can move out of the way or store against a wall.

Cabinets

They can provide extra storage in almost any room. Recessed cabinets can be designed to fit between the 16-inch studs that are found in most homes. Utilize the space inside your wall to display collectibles, wine, china, house billiard cues, or even mops and brooms.

A bathroom is rarely the first place homeowners consider when thinking about extra storage, but there are more options here than one may think.  Hiring a contractor to build shelves in unused corners of the room will offer convenient and immediate access to towels and other bath items.

Bedrooms

The bedroom is also a great place for built-in seating. Build seating with a hinged top or a deep drawer. You’ll have the perfect place to relax and read a book and hide extra blankets. An island can work well in a large walk-in closet as well. You can utilize unused space in the middle of the closet and free up space in a bedroom by eliminating the need for an extra dresser.

Garage

Turn your garage into an efficient storage area. You can get as simple or elaborate as you want. Many hardware stores offer industrial cabinets and shelving, but any type of cabinet will help you organize and store items. Don’t overlook the ceiling. Hanging, adjustable shelves can be installed to avoid contact with an open garage door and take advantage of unused space.
